The day that everything would change.
Jacob liked change less than he liked nature, but this was supposed to be a good change. This was supposed to make a difference for him, for everyone. All he needed to do was take the first step, commit to something he had been dipping his toes in the water of for so long.
Did everyone feel like this the night before? Was this what generals felt like the night before a battle? Or was he supposed to be more sure? Jacob had no idea. He was never sure of anything really, and wasn't that his problem? Wasn't that what Samara had told him that last day they spent together?
"Jacob, nothing in life is certain, you're not going to get big neon signs over the things you're supposed to do. You just do them, and after they're done you figure out if you made the right decision. But the thing that matters is that you made a decision!"
He would have replied with points about playing it safe, how caution is a virtue too, but his point was proven just as well by the car that sideswiped her and ended the conversation, ended every conversation with her.
She never had been one to wait for anything, why should a green light be any different?
